Wayward Route · RV planning guide

Plan federal campground nights for your RV trip

Choose an overnight area that fits your driving day, then check the campground's official booking page for your exact dates and campsite. Confirm permitted RV length separately from pad length, review access and amenities, and save the reservation before treating the night as booked.

A campground option is the start of a booking decision

Wayward Route uses imported federal campground information to suggest overnight options along a U.S. route. This catalog is not live reservation inventory. A match means there is an option to investigate, not a vacant site for your travel date.

Check the free preview's coverage gaps before purchasing. If an overnight has no matching federal campground, adjust your route, dates, or pace and preview again. Do not assume a private RV park or dispersed campsite is included in that gap.

Check the exact site for your rig

Facility information and individual site limits can differ. On the official listing, check the equipment types allowed and the permitted RV length. Read driveway details, slope, back-in or pull-through access, and any arrival restrictions.

A pad measurement describes a parking surface. It is not interchangeable with a permitted vehicle length. Recreation.gov listings can show these as separate fields. Where a limit is missing or ambiguous, contact the campground before reserving.

  1. Search the exact arrival and departure dates on the official booking page.
  2. Read the individual site's allowed equipment and RV length limit.
  3. Check access, hookups, water, dump facilities, and arrival instructions for your needs.
  4. Review the campground's cancellation and change terms before paying.
  5. Save your confirmation and mark the night booked in your private checklist.

Work through one night before committing to the whole route

The public Smokies sample shows Smokemont, Elkmont, and Cades Cove with official campground sources. Its dates and driving estimates are illustrative, and availability is unconfirmed. Use it to see the format, then check your own dates on the campground's booking page.

Your own free preview includes a complete first day. Open its source and booking links, verify the site information for your rig, and judge whether the overnight location fits your arrival time. That gives you a concrete way to assess the plan before buying.

Keep reservations in step with revisions

A purchased Wayward Route plan lets you compare campground alternatives, revise your saved route, and track bookings privately. Replacing a campground does not cancel the old reservation. Check the old booking's change terms and make the replacement reservation yourself.

After your campground choices are confirmed, enter their entrance destinations in your RV navigation app and compare its drive estimates with your check-in times. Wayward Route's car-route estimates do not verify road restrictions for your RV.

Common questions

Does Wayward Route check campsite availability?

No. Its imported federal campground catalog does not include live, date-specific inventory. Check your dates and exact site on the campground's official booking page before reserving.

Does changing my campground cancel my reservation?

No. Changing the Wayward Route itinerary updates the plan only. You must change or cancel any reservation directly with the booking provider.
